Tuesday, November 6, 2012. That is the date of the next presidential election.
What will be the outcome? With the date a little over two years away, you can bet that presidential hopefuls will be staging their position, and getting out in front of the cameras more and more, if they have declared or not is of little issue.
Already the talk has started, should Obama run again or step aside for another democrat candidate. Many say that it will depend on weather his popularity level can rise in the polls.
This raises an interesting question. Would President Obama step aside and concede that he could not win the general election? One possible outcome on the horizon, is another run by congressman Ron Paul. As of date, he has not declared one way or the other but his campaign has already started by his supporters.
Some recent polls have suggested that Ron Paul could defeat Barrack Obama in a general election. This has thrown political support from republicans that wouldn't usually touch whom they refer to as "Dr. No" and his policies with a ten foot pole. The Dr. No refers to his status of consistently voting No on legislation that compromises on his view of the constitution, and is education as a medical doctor.
In addition to growing support for Ron Paul from his political base, this has thrown the Democrats political base in turmoil as well. When combined with the results from the mid-term elections, many democrats will be distancing themselves further from Obama as they stage for there own eventual presidential run.
That is unless Obama can raise his approval rating with the public. He still has his die-hard base of supporters, but some of the more casual supporters have viewed his first 2 years as a failure and are disillusioned with what his campaign promises were versus what his presidential actions became. This is proven by some estimates they 30% to 40% of those whose consider themselves "tea-party" members also consider themselves democrats philosophically.
It will be Obama's job to lose in 2012. So it stands to reason he will begin his campaign now as well. Not since 1968 has an incumbent president been challenged on his bid for re-election. It will be very interesting to watch Hillary Clinton and some of the other democrats with presidential aspirations, stage themselves, just in case, going forward. This will be the number one question "behind closed doors" going forward.
On the Republican end of things, many have neither confirmed nor denied, when asked if they will be a candidate in the presidential elections of 2012. This has spurred speculation, and many have been named as seeking the nomination.
In addition the the mentioned Ron Paul, who has been doing well in the polls,
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Governor Haley Barbour, John Bolton of Maryland, Jeb Bush of Florida, Herman Cain of Georgia, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, Senator John Cornyn of Texas, Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana , Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Newt Gingrich of Georgia, Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, Governor Bobby Jindal, Gary Johnson of New Mexico, Sarah Palin of Alaska, Governor Tim Pawlenty, Representative Mike Pence, Governor Rick Perry, Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, Representative Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Senator John Thune, Donald Trump of New York (wheeew! a mouthfull)are all considered to be mulling around the decision.
The first steps will be taken soon. The positioning will begin soft and slow but if you keep that in the back of your mind, you will find it.
