Real ID Act = National ID and the end of Privacy

Many States are rejecting the Real ID Act on the basis that it will be a complete waste of money, used to eventually track every American and leave us open to a greater threat of Identity Crime. what is your state doing?

Maine has refused the real ID Act and called for its federal repeal citing
" the law does more harm than good, that it would be a bureaucratic nightmare to enforce, is threatening to individual privacy, makes citizens increasingly vulnerable to ID theft, and would cost Maine taxpayers at least $185 million in five years because of the massive unfunded federal mandates on all the states."

The Resolution vote in the Maine House was 137-4 and in the Maine Senate unanimous, 34-0.

Utah also has rejected the Real ID Act and acted similar to Maine. Also Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.

Are these state simply crazy? Why is it that these other state have held on to their guns and promote the real ID despite its massive rejection?

Anthony Romero, the executive director of ACLU, stated: "... Real ID is an unfunded mandate that violates the Constitution's 10th Amendment on state powers, destroys states' dual sovereignty and consolidates every American's private information, leaving all of us far more vulnerable to identity thieves."

"the requirement that states maintain databases of information about their citizens and residents and then share this personal information with all other states will expose every state to the information security weaknesses of every other state and threaten the privacy of every American"

As a citizen of Delaware, there completely pro Real ID position scares the crap out of me. In Delaware they have already decided to become Real ID compliment, despite the Act being delayed because of other states rejecting it.

Why are some politicians so hell bent on violating our natural born rights? Those who would sacrifice freedom and privacy for security deserve neither and will get none of the above.

A few more nasty facts about the Real ID Act:

"the "common machine-readable technology" required by the REAL ID Act would convert state-issued driver licenses and identification cards into tracking devices, allowing computers to note and record people's whereabouts each time they are identified"

"there are no provision that would dis-allow any business from requiring to see the Real ID. From renting movies, to buying food, to opening a credit card, a bank account, alcohol, donations, anything that may require an ID would record that event in a database, shared with every state, accessible to state and federal employees and vulnerable to mis-use and theft"

"the REAL ID Act wrongly coerces states into doing the federal government's bidding by threatening to refuse noncomplying states' citizens the privileges and immunities enjoyed by other states' citizens"
